Save a Lifesaver

I have a new preview article for the Candy of the Month Club. It’s all about the differences between Lifesavers and their fruity counterpart… Hey doesn’t that sound kind of secret agent like?.. Well maybe not. Either way since the preview of the Candy of the Month Club is still free that means you can check out this article right now even if you're not a member.

Pudding colour theory

So I decided to make myself some Butterscotch pudding today. I chose Butterscotch because I believe it is a flavour that is greatly unappreciated in the sweet food world.

The strange thing about this treat was the powder.

It was purple and it changed to its light brown colour when the milk made contact. Now I’m no colour expert but I’m pretty sure purple and white do not make brown.

Pop goes my dinner.

So I was shopping and I came across a flavour of pop I’d never heard of. It’s called Sorrel, I have no idea what that is. I don’t even have a clue what a Sorrel is and where someone might harvest or make it.

Apparently though it’s a “Genuine Caribbean Taste” so it can’t be too bad, right?
My first reaction.

It’s not that I didn’t like it I just didn’t know what to think of it. It tasted fruity but it doesn’t taste like any fruit I’ve ever known, that and it had a bit of a cinnamon kick to it. The look is not disgust as much as its just confusion.

Allison had this to say:
Mmmm Fruity goodness.

Do I need help?

Just curious if anybody knows what this little drawing might mean? I take it as some kind of warning about eating this yummy treats. I just want to know if I should get some medical attention seeing as I just ate a whole box of these things.

Two suggestions together at last

The other night we had some friends over and inevitably the conversation about chocolate came up. It was suggested that if you want to make chocolates at home check out the bulk barn and their selection of Belgian chocolate wafers, apparently they’re much better than the regulars. Well fortunately for me a new bulk barn just opened near me so the adventure began.
So we picked some up and many are they good, just on their own too.
The second suggestion in this equation is the way Allison likes her chocolate, with a little peanut butter. I watch her eat a few of these yummy disks and couldn’t resist. I dare you to even try.
My tummy is filled with yummy.

Update day!!!

Yup today is the day I update, or as some people call it working. Today is the day I sit down at my computer and realise that my web skills aren’t really that great. So what’s in store for you crazy kids?

Well I’ve posted the new Bull’s Eyes review, I don’t want to give it away but I can tell you that I still have a half filled bag of them sitting downstairs. I wanted to have the Lifesavers article done but it looks like that probably won’t hit the site until later in the week, with the preview of it on the Candy of the Month Club members section.

Other than that I have a bunch of French candy to review and I might even have a few extra treats to give away in the Candy of the Month Club. I’m tired now; I’m going to go to sleep.

A funny thing happened to me

So two things come to mind right now.

1) This blog really isn’t that funny, I should try and make it more entertaining.
2) I just agreed to an interview from someone and I don’t know where, when, or even if it’s going to be published for anything.
This should be interesting, and hey that would solve my first problem.

French Eats

Well Allison just got back from France and she brought some cool treats. As a hint some of these may be a part of the first Candy of the Month Club packages, so check it out already. So with all this new candy I figured it would be a good time to start taking some pictures for Candy Critic.
This was something I’ve never tried before; it’s called Mars Delights. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again if you think you’re eating good chocolate in North America then it might be true, only however if you paid an arm and a leg for it.

Europeans know how it’s done. Even the simple Mars bar type treats are made of decent quality chocolate. I am wondering however if this picture is appetizing or disgusting.

Eats Shoots and rots your teeth.

I did the shoot for the Lifesavers article yesterday and I’m pretty happy with it. I think what I’m going to do one flavour of Lifesavers a day for all of next week. The problem is which flavour to do first. I think I’ll let the package decide, I’ve always said there is great wisdom in a package of Lifesavers.

Not cone but apple

So I’m collecting fruit for the upcoming article on which is better Lifesavers or the real fruit when I came across a dilemma.

I couldn’t find fresh pineapple. I got the canned stuff but that left me with a bit of a question in my head. When’s pineapple season?

Call of the rich and famous

Working on the Candy of the Month Club preview which will be online on Monday. But I figured I pass a little time with an interesting contest. It would appear that the people at Orbits Gum want me to get a call from Snoop Dogg. So I’m going to enter and see what happens, come along for the journey wont you?

So I called, and here’s what I got:

Fun times my friend, fun times.

Fruity inspiration hits

So I’m always trying to think of new and interesting articles I can write for Candy Critic. Sometimes I get a flood of ideas and other times it’s a little dry. Well today was a lucky day. Not only did I get an idea but I think it’s a pretty good one. I’m going to do an article about how similar candy flavors and real flavors actually are.

Basically I’m going to pick a fruity candy, then buy it’s equivalent in real fruit and do a taste test. I was inspired to do this while walking through a marked today. The big problem however was choosing the candy. My first 2 choices where Skittles or Starburst, fine fruity snacks that always seem to tote how full of flavor they are. Skittles on Candy Critic have been a little overused, although not reviewed (I should change that) so I figured I’d go for Starburst. Well on a shopping excursion to my local drug store I came into Starburst sour and Starburst Cream, but not the regular. Seeing as the fruit was going to be neither sour nor creamy I didn’t think this would be fair. Then I say it, a roll of lifesavers starring me in the face.

Brilliant, the perfect treat. Life Savers have been around forever, their flavors although added upon have never changed, and I get to buy a pineapple, I love those things. So there’s the basis for the article, good fruity fun awaits.

Candy Critic has a BLOG!!!!

So the Candy Critic BLOG lives. I figure I needed someplace to rant and rave about all the things I do to make Candy Critic happen.

Right now I'm working like a dog to get the member's section of the candy of the month club site up and running. I'll be sure to let you all know when it's online. Because of this I've been neglecting the reviewing process as of late, fortunately I do many reviews in advance so if I have some down time from reviewing I can keep the new weekly posts of reviews online.

Well I'm not sure what else to say right now. I'm sure things here will evolve. Also you should note that I'm not the only person contributing to this BLOG. The whole staff at Candy Critic has the ability to post things, so you never know what might come up.
