Forum a line here

Sure it looks like I just sit on my duff and eat candy all day, but it’s just not true. Well part of it is, I do eat candy all day, but I don’t just sit around. I’ve been spending the last while setting up a forum for all you candy people out there that want more candy information.

I’ll check on it regularly as will some of the other folks from Candy Critic. It’s really the best way to get candy questions answered. Also if you claim to know a thing or two about candy check it out yourself and maybe lend a hand. Who knows I may reward those who help out.

A… What’s up?

So I had a fun morning. It was an early morning, so early that I was already sitting in the studio waiting to go on when I normally start thinking about getting out of bed. I waited with anticipation, or at least the hope that someone might explain what I was going to be talking about. What ended up happening was a nice little conversation between me and the host and suddenly we where on. I talked about cool candy, I talked about the Candy of the Month Club, and I talked about other things that I’d probably have an easier time remembering if I wasn’t so tired right now. They said on the air that they wanted to talk more with me so maybe I’ll be making a return visit or two. Either way it was good times.

Just a reminder

I’m going to be on A-channels morning show tomorrow morning (Wednesday Aug 30th) between 7:30 and 8:30 in the am. Man that sucks getting up that early, having said that I do get to eat a bunch of candy for breakfast then.

Update day is today?

But it’s not Wednesday. Well you see I’ve got a really busy day tomorrow and I wanted to be sure that everything is updated and you all have something fun to read today. So I’ve done the updates a day early. The candy of choice this week is a great one, British and chocolate, which pretty much make it perfect.
There are also a bunch of fun things on Candy Critic to go with the review. First of all we have a new article all about my day at the fair. We take a look at three treats you find at most carnivals, I had a good time doing this article mainly because I didn’t have to go on any rides.

The forum is also out in the public eye as well. I’ve been tinkering with it for a while off and on now but I’m ready to let the world talk about candy. Members of the Candy of the Month Club get private sections to talk about other cool things as well.

Speaking of Candy of the Month Club, the free preview is almost at an end so for all you cheapskates out there check it out now because soon it won’t be free.

Butter + Scotch =

Now I don’t know where you come from but in my neck of the woods butterscotch cream pie is non-existent. Maybe it’s the circles I hang around in, maybe it’s the type of people I meet, but I’ve never had or even seen this treat before.
I’ve had banana cream pies, both good and bad. I’ve tried coconut cream pies, more bad than good. Chocolate cream pies, you bet, they’re one of the best treats in the world. But until this past weekend I’ve never had the honour of eating a butterscotch cream pie.

My friends it was great, it was better than great. I have actual regret that I have not and enjoyed such a fine treat till this day. Man I could eat a whole one right now.

I’m going buggy

I was given the great gift that is a Bugz Popsicle. I’ve reviewed these in the past and I can’t tell you how cool they are. A cool treat with all kinds gummy bugs inside.

Here’s one such bug, I decided to do a little investigating to see if the bugs where just little bits of gummy or if they where actually shaped like bugs. It wasn’t easy trying to get one out in good condition but I finally did and I’m happy to say that it was in fact buggy. Good on you Nestle, good on you.

Busted treats

I stopped in a truck stop and saw this tragedy. It would appear that people who need a Hershey bar have to go without. Never seen anything like this in my life.

Pop goes the world

Tried a new kind of pop. It was tasty and it kept me up for about 2 hours. It’s from South America and it’s full of caffeinated goodness.
It’s called Guarana… Well it’s actually called Gurana with a little accent thing on the ‘a’ but I don’t know how to type that in.

It taste a little like ginger ail but fruity. Supposedly it’s super caffeinated but in all honesty it didn’t make me hyper but I did stay up for a while. Maybe they’re developing a new kind of caffeine that goes into the system a little slower. So it keeps you awake but doesn’t get you too buzzed.

CC

Aw nuts

I just tried this new kind of peanut. It’s black pepper and sea salt flavoured. The thing is I was really disappointed in them. I was disappointed but not for the reasons you might think.

See they where a little hot for my liking. I know lots of people like hot food but I’m just not one of them. In particular I don’t like hot food when I don’t expect it. A hot surprise for me is a bad surprise. The thing that really ticked me off about this treat is when I got them I turned down another flavour they had because they said they where hot. So I figured this was the cool safe choice, I was wrong.

Meat us here

Allison and I decided to maybe have a little taste testing competition between cheap pepperoni sticks and higher quality pepperoni stick. Well I thought it would be fun, Allison still wasn’t sure if she’s actually agreed.

I decided to pick up a pack of hot Rods from Schneider’s as our cheap or less expensive choice.

As our better quality choice we went with Pillars Pep Stix. I, being a wimp, went for the regular.

Allison being a lot braver went for the spicy. So here are our comments.

Allison: It’s like a solid stick of salty chemicals. I spit it out.

Chris: I was afraid that I may not like these any more because when I was kid I was addicted to them and I thought maybe I’d grown out of taste. I was wrong, yummy, salty goodness.

Allison: It’s like taking salami, rolling it in Tabasco, and rubbing it on the coals of a burnt out fire.

Chris: Too many little bits of meat. Sure I know it’s supposed to be meatier but I feel like I’m eating little bits of parts of meats that I would normally pick off my dinner.

This just in!

It would appear that yours truly is going to be on the A-Channel Morning show in Ottawa on Wednesday August 30th. Let me just check the schedule to see what time it’s on… 6 am!!! Wow, that’s early. From what I know I’m going to be on some time between 7:30 and 8:30.

If you have that TiVo thing I might recommend setting it up. I’ll be brining in some candy from my stash and maybe a few treats for the host, I’ll see what I can dig up. Either way it should be a fun little romp in TV land. I’m sure I’ll post more about it.

Kiss me and I’ll kiss you back

While enjoying a little stroll through the streets of Ottawa last night Allison and I came across the Kiss Mobile.

Allison kissed it.

I tried to steal a giant Kissable off it.

We had such a great time, but there was no one around to thank for our fun little frolic.

So I wrote a note telling them exactly how I felt about their wonderful product.

And left it for them.

Look at you’re calendar, it’s telling you that it’s update day!

So this week I take a look at Extra Peach Gum. I’ve been a big fan of this gum for a while and I think its time is due. When it first came out it was a bit of a novelty but now it’s a common find on the candy shelf. I have a great interactive tip as well on this review, so give it a try.

I’ve also added a new article in the member’s section of the Candy of the Month Club. It’ll be on the regular site in the future but as always members get to check it out a week in advance. Having said that the preview for the member’s section is still available for free, but that’s ending next month and that can’t be good for those of you who have not joined yet.

Kit Kat Blues

The other day I did something kind of rare for me. I ate a Kit Kat bar. Now you may be wondering why it would be rare for the Candy Critic to eat the candy that got the highest rating on candycritic.org. People always ask me why I’m not like 600 lbs after eating so much candy and the answer is I don’t; I never really eat the same thing twice. It happens now and again, but it’s pretty rare. I generally don’t eat much more candy than most, I just crave variety.

So this Kit Kat was a bit of a treat for me. I knew I didn’t have to review it or anything, so I got to sit back and just munch it down. I’m a little upset that it wasn’t a British Kit Kat (because those are the best) but beggars can’t be choosers.

Carnival fun treats

I went to the Super Ex here in Ottawa and my Candy fix was… well it was fixed. Nothing makes me more ill than a fair, yet no matter how many times my stomach aches I still go back wanting more. I should also add that I don’t go on rides (they just make me puke, and why would I want to waste all that carnival food).
I decided to write a little article for Candy Critic about my adventure. The idea is simple, I picked out 3 treats and wrote about them. Sure I could have been a little more clever but I was too busy chatting with a bearded lady.

But baby it’s cold in my mouth

We just finished shooting a really interesting episode of the Candy Critic Internet Films for a future show. It was the first time that it may not have worked at all, but we figured that when we did it so it all works out. Basically it’s all about the sparks you get when you eat Wint-O-Green Lifesavers.

The thing is for this particular episode I had to eat a whole bunch of really cold mints. By the end of it the room smelt like (and I’m quoting Allison on this) “the wint-o-monster threw up”. My mouth, although fresh was also suffering from extreme cold. I was wondering afterwards what might get rid of that cool feeling.
I’m pretty experienced with the whole getting rid of tastes, mainly due to all of the stupid things I’ve eaten in my life. The most famous of these being Milk to get rid of hot stuff like Tabasco. But how does one get rid of that icy cold feeling in your mouth? Wait a minute, I have an idea…

Movie Over

Hey check out the trailer for the full length, and we mean longer than before versions of the Candy Critic Internet Films. You can see by this trailer that it'll be super fun for everyone. But you have to be a member of the Candy of the Month Club to see them when they go online.

Getting to the Root of the beer

Man, as of late I’ve gotten into Root beer again. See I’ve been off it for a while because I had a bad experience as a kid. Let’s just say if you ever find a case of Root beer in your grandmother’s basement and you think it’s neat that it’s the old fashion cans. It just might be old Root beer.

The thing about Root beer is I know very little about it. I’ve tried a similar drink called Sarsaparilla which I believe is the predecessor to Root beer, but other than that I’m pretty clueless about it’s history.

I’m also not sure why they associate the root with it. For me roots are not attractive at all, even roots I enjoy eating aren’t attractive, like carrots. So why name a fun soda pop after what’s probably the ugliest part of any plant. I could look up the history of Root beer online but I’m feeling a little lazy today, so instead I’m going to go eat something.

Update’s happen again and again

So it’s been a busy week here at Candy Critic. We are on the cusp of sending out a promotional blitz for the Candy of the Month Club. Really if you care at all about this BLOG, or candycritic.org join up and support us. We’re also shooting video like crazy for the online show, which will only be available to members.

Well this weeks review is Strange Gummies. What can I say they’re strange. It’s also the premier of my new piece of Gummy art made with my Strange Gummies.

Well keep an eye on the BLOG because I’ll be posting when the Candy of the Month Club promotions are going out. If you’re interested in receiving a promo pack e-mail me and let me know who you are and what you do. I’ll send something to everybody that sends me an e-mail I guarantee. Although you’ll have to include your address as I am not psychic.

Vote for candy, it’s dandy.

So I was checking out a few interesting web things for the news section of Candy Critic and I found out that Advertising Week is having another vote for this year’s icon of the year. They’re also voting on favourite slogan as well. Living in the capital of Canada I can’t tell you how important it is to vote, and since I love candy this vote is extremely important.
So get out and vote for a candy character. Last year the M&M guys took home the prize; so let’s keep that candy roll going.

The Double Mint Twins are up this year, and twins are neat, even the evil one.

Twinkie the Kid is up for the award as well, and the Duke would want you to vote for him.

Maybe it’s not candy, but it’s close enough for me, I consider casting a vote for Chester Cheetah. He’s always been cooler than me, so I figure if I plug him he might let me hang out or something.

Now it would appear there are no candy slogans up this year, so I think I’ll vote for this one: “NOTHING BEATS A GREAT PAIR OF L’EGGS”
