It’s winding down

After all was said and done my Halloween was absolutely crazy. But my friends Lee and Heather came over and we gave out candy. Happy Halloween you candy freaks!

Halloween, the CBC experience.

Cool CBC radio. I’ve been on a few shows but for some reason I really get a kick out of CBC radio. The families been listening to it for years and now I’ll be on it.

Here I am in the booth with all my treats. I left with far fewer than I came in with, those CBC guys really like the free treats.

The interview

Here’s a dramatic re-enactment of my interview with CFRB. It went well and it was nice and short. I need that because I haven’t had lunch yet.

CC

More Halloween Havoc

I’ll be on the CFRB Toronto at 12:45 today. Not sure what the deal is but I’m sure it’ll be fun.

CC

Happy Halloween!!! Can I take a nap?

Well today I’m going to do my best to keep you in the loop about my day. If things get a little too hairy you may have to finish reading about it tomorrow. I’ve got two things planned for the day for sure and one still undecided. That doesn’t even include the fact that a bunch of kids will be at my door demanding candy.

Actually I have one thing left to do because I’ve already been down to the A-Channel morning show to chat about candy. They had a whole crowd all dressed up and all kinds of fun things. I give credit to all those involved as I found it difficult to even remember my own name let alone be all dressed up and cheery.

It’s like Christmas, only a little more evil and there’s a little more candy

This nice gentleman on the side is Adrian Harewood, host of ‘All in a day’ on the CBC’s radio 1. I’ll be joining him some time between 5 and 6 tomorrow to talk about candy.
But that’s just the middle of my day.

First thing in the morning I’ll be on the A-Channels morning show because who doesn’t like candy first thing in the morning. After this crazy day I end up at home, not to relax but to give out the pile of candy I have sitting in my living room.

Slippy Fingers

Hey gang, I just entered the Butterfinger “Follow the Finger” video contest. Here’s my entry. If I win I’ll be shocked and amazed. Shocked because I won, and amazed that anybody could actually sit through it.

Dress up time

While trying to figure out what to do for Halloween, costume wise. I decided to look for some inspiration online. What I found was a whole lot of people dressing up like candy.

I’m not really sure what to think of these, but what could be more adorable than a drooling Tootsie Roll?

I’m not complaining or anything but

I’ve noticed a really big trend lately in candy companies having contest to win big prizes.
They give away things like TVs and computers. But I don’t really need that, sure mine aren’t the newest but they work fine.

What I could use from a candy company is new taps for my bathroom. Mine leak and hey a set of Baby Ruth taps would look cool.

I could also use a new toaster, as it is my Pop Tarts burn on one side and stay cold in the middle. A Double Mint themed toaster would do the trick.

Most of all I could use a tripod so I can take better silly pictures of myself. An Oh Henry tripod would turn me into a photo star

It’s the creepiest update day in history

Being update day is great, but being the update day before Halloween is creepy too. I’m not sure why I was just told that. This week we look at something that could be terrifying, or it could be slightly bland and not as intense as I thought it would be. See I’m creating suspense; I’m like a modern day Hitchcock.

I also hope to have the finger movie done by the end of the week. It’s a happy tale about a fun times in days gone by. And how can it not be fun, it involves a giant foam finger.

Chill Bull for I

Found this great commercial for something called Chulbuli. If anybody knows where I can get some let me know because what ever it’s doing to these people is both intriguing and terrifying at the same time.

A special update for all of you.

Well it’s up and running, sure there are a few changes I’m going to make but all in all it’s working. Did I mention I’m talking about the new and improved Candy Critic?
Well as you can see by the look in my eyes, I’m not really all together there today. Just finished a huge amount of coding and such to get it working and I haven’t had a chocolate bar in almost a week. I need chocolate stat!

A wind from the east

Through good times, and bad times, they’ll be on my side forever more… Candy Critic has all kinds of friends; people that love the idea of sharing candy treats from all over the world.

Recently my friend Mike was visiting some family on the east coast and he was nice enough to spread the love of East coast candies.

He got me a “Pal-O-Mine”, because that’s what friends are for.

Give me a U… U. Give me a P… P. Well you get the rest.

Another update day is upon us and more candy fun is to be had by all. This weeks review is a great one, it’s full of candy goodness and full of… well it’s just really loaded with stuff in general. The name “Overload” is very appropriate.
I’m still in the heat of the big update for Candy Critic as well. It’s like a never-ending line of code waiting to finish me off. I wish I could just… Well maybe take a nap while watching some good old-fashioned Canadian television.

I’ve also sent out the member’s packs for this month all it appears all is well. Or at least I have yet to hear any complaints. If you do have a problem with your pack let me know, but please be aware that I might be losing my mind just a little.

Halloween is coming

It’s just around the corner and that means I better think of a costume and fast. I’ll be honest I like the candy side of this holiday but the costumes and the giving away the candy part kind of bums me out.
I did however pick up a whole mess-o-treats to give to the kids. I may even give a few lucky folks something from my private stash, something special.

The interesting thing I found last year was the few kids that required peanut free treats. To make sure I’m good I loaded up with a whole box just in case. It also inspired me to add a new section in Candy Critic when I do the big update, it’ll be all about certain health requirements.

It’s the new style… four and three and two and one.

If you’ve read The Globe and Mail article about Candy Critic you will have noticed the one line about not really being into the look of the site. Well it’s funny because I was just thinking about how badly Candy Critic needed an update. So I’ve decided to give it a shot.
Here’s one of the looks I’m going for, or at least thinking about. I want to improve the navigation and also make it a little more fun.

This is my latest idea; in fact at this point this is the front-runner. If you have any suggestions or ideas on how I can improve the site let me know. For now I’ll be neck deep in code and my inability to have any confidence in my designs.

Globes are round!

It would appear that I was in the Globe and Mail this weekend. If anybody has a link or a copy let me know.
I’m a little offended by the not much to look at comment but other than that I’m happy.

“Hot Link: candycritic.org
Sing it with me now: "I want candy."
Sugar freaks will get a rush out of candycritic.org, the creation of Ottawa-based Chris Stewart, a confessed candy freak. On the site (which isn't much to look at, we acknowledge), Stewart shares reviews of all sorts of candy, from the familiar (Kit Kat, Pocky sticks) to the strange (a gummy bug with jelly guts), scoring them on taste, novelty and texture.
What's really sweet is the audience participation component. For $10 a month you can join the Candy of the Month Club and receive a handpicked selection from Stewart every 30 days or so (three, six and 12 month memberships are available).

The sun is shinning… well maybe not, but it should be because it’s update day!

As Halloween approaches all you see all around you is sugary sweets. You can’t get away from it. Well this week on Candy Critic you can, because this week we review the “No Sugar Added Reece Peanut Butter Cup”.
Other than that we’ve been preparing few new articles and they should be online in the next few weeks. Some are already in the works and you can preview them in the Candy of the Month Club.

Road trip bakery rule.

There’s a trick to checking out local bakeries when you’re on a road trip.

Never over do it.

Last Ice Cream

I went to Toronto and I managed to get what will probably be my last ice cream from a truck this year. I’m both happy and sad.

The truth about the finger

So the folks at Butterfinger sent me this awesome finger (as well as a bunch of Butterfinger bars, and other stuff too). But I saw this cool foam delight and decided that anything that silly deserves an adventure.
So this weekend we loaded up the car and off we went on a little excursion to see the sites.

Meet new friends. And eat strange and exotic foods.

Heading to the Bar

I just got a whole mess of chocolate bars from Nestle. So many that I don’t think I’ll be able to eat them all myself. So I’m going to give a bunch of them away. Candy of the Month Club People get first grabs, but I’m sure I’ll have a few left over so who knows, maybe you could win one.
Nestle sent me these bars because they tie in with a new web site called Treasurequest. Apparently you can win a million bucks… Wait a minute why am I giving away a chance at a million bucks. Maybe I’ll give them away pre-opened.

The best update of all.

What’s long, could be fed to your dog, and is made in Japan. Well if you guessed anything except our review this week then I have no idea where your mind is. This is one of those treats I found sitting on a shelf in a Japanese store without any other candy near it. I basically just guessed that it was candy and it would appear I am correct.
Also this week I have a new article all about Halloween candy. Well it’s more about the packaging than the candy itself, you’ll just have to check it out.

For the Candy of the Month Club Members we have a new episode of the Candy Critic Internet Films all about the sparkles that you get when you bite into a mint.
