My favourite U2 song is Lemon

I got an e-mail a while ago from Candy Critic reader asking if I knew where to get chocolate covered orange peels. Well I have to be honest I haven’t had a chocolate covered orange peel in a long time, and I don’t remember really liking it when I did.

Well the other day I came across chocolate covered Lemon peels and like an idiot I gave it some thought. I figured maybe I might have grown a taste for chocolate covered peels or at least maybe lemon ones are better than orange. Apparently I’m mistaken because these are horrible. So if you’re looking for some I can suggest a few stores or you could always just take the rest of these horrible treats off my hands.

Happy National Corn Chip Day.

We hear at Candy Critic would like to wish all of you a wonderful and crunch National Corn Chip Day.
The only problem with have with this great day would be that we have no idea where it came from and other than us we have no idea who might celebrate such an event.

Becoming an M&M man

Have you ever wondered what you’d look like as a candy treat? I mean what could be better than being covered in a crunchy candy shell? Well the folks at M&Ms let me do it at www.becomeanmm.com now I can experiment with that whole melts in your mouth not in your hand theory… Any takers… Ladies?

The lowdown on the site is that’s it’s pretty fun, although a little slow. I also tried to use the studio section and put little me in a fun setting and it basically didn’t work. I also never really know what to do with these things when I’m done; for the most part I just stare at the little version of me on the screen and wonder what a psychiatrist would think.

Update…Cough… Wheeze… Day

Not to put a damper on anything this week it’s just I have a bit of a cold so I’m not up to my full potential. But this week's made me feel a little better, it’s one from the archives, also one I’ve been trying to find again to send out to the members of the Candy of the Month Club. Star Popeye Snacks are just so strange but kind of tasty too.

Well due to my illness you may have noticed a bit of an onslaught of updates on the BLOG today. I meant to put these up sooner but I just haven’t had the energy. I just wish I could eat more chocolate to get better.

A treat just for me

Today I went to Wal-Mart.
I decided to get a treat, just for me.
With so much selection what to get?
I chose these tasty little rosette thingies.

Yummy fun!

Sweet pants

Saw these while shopping, I could say something about getting into someone’s pants but that would just be tacky.

Happy National popcorn day!

What could make any person happier than to eat a vegetable that’s been dried out then fried in oil till it explodes in a puff of fluffy goodness?

But let us not forget the pioneer of this great snack, a I believe a moment of silent thought should be dedicated to the man that not only made popcorn great, but also pioneered the bowtie to new heights.

So go heat up some oil, start up your air popper, or even rip off the paper top and watch the foil expand to the point that you’re so sure it’s going to explode and eat some popcorn.

Here’s a little musical accompaniment to enjoy it as well.

Bogged down with Reviews

Here’s my problem. As you may or may not know I do all my reviews in advance, sometimes long in advance. I do this because you never know when you’re not going to be able to eat something either because I’m sick or because I’m writing an article that has me eating enough junk food already. The problem that’s come up is I have way too many treats waiting to be posted; I also have a huge amount of treats waiting to be reviewed.
So I’ve decided to make a database of all the treats I have on deck for either review or to be posted. I find all to often I forget about reviews that are ready to go online and they just sit for weeks or even months. I’m still going to post weekly but at least now I’ll post a little more responsibly, get those limited editions and new treats up faster. Also I’ll give priority to treats that companies send me, it’s only fair.

I forgot to mention

I found this online a couple of days ago. Thought it was pretty cool. Here’s a quote from this gentlemen’s BLOG: “This past Christmas Vacation my brothers, sister, myself and my girlfriend built a scale replica of the battle of Helms Deep, from the second book of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The Two Towers penned by the late, great, J.R.R. Tolkien.”

Check it out here.

A charmed man smiles on update day

So this week we have some east coast good times for you. How do I know it’s from the East Coast? Well first of all it’s called Pal-o-mine, nothing could be friendlier than that and the east coast is the friendliest of Canadian coasts. Secondly it was forced upon me by a man that had way too much pride over his local candy treat, yet another east coast ideal.

Also this week we take a look at Jelly Bellies. See I get lots of e-mails from people telling me I should review Jelly Bellies, but I couldn’t decide which flavour to review. Well this was my process so I hope it works out.

Look what I found!

I was digging through some old stuff and I came across my old “I love Nerds” T-shirt. I saved up so many box tops for this thing.

Quick as a flash I try to get it on.

But it’s way too small. Well maybe if I find the fountain or youth and drink some water and go back to being 7 again I could have fun days in my “I love Nerds” shirt.

Snowmen Peeps Microwave Expansion

I was going to look around for a cool candy commercial today when I came across this little experiment that made me think. Then I thought some more and realized that playing with my microwave is probably not a good idea for me.

A little gag from Shaun Majumder

I’m not sure if it’s original but Shaun Majumder sent me this little laugh so I figure I’d post it. Let the comedy commence:

“Did you hear about the fight down at the CANDY store? "Mr Big" got mad'n kicked "Oh Henry" in the nuts.”

If I could I’d sleep all the way till update day.

This is a bit of a slow week on Candy Critic it often is near the beginning of each month, and why is that? Well the beginning of the month is when I spend the whole time working on getting new treats for the Candy of the Month Club. So that leaves a little less time for fun new adventures. But after everything is sent out and the members are happily munching on sweet treats I always regroup and get back on the candy crazy calendar. Check out the review this week, it’s one that the CBC caught me munching for the first time.

Montana’s Shakes

I was out eating and I saw this on my table.

Just in case you can’t read it:

“Our milkshakes are blended thick and creamy, and made with real, old-fashioned ice cream. Choose from Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry, Banana or Strawberry Banana all topped with Real Whipped Cream. Mix two flavours to make your own delicious fresh fruit treat.

Try a Strawberry Banana!”

I’m getting the idea that they want to unload their Strawberry Banana shakes seeing as they suggest it three times.

Grocery find

I was walking down the aisles of my local grocery store and I came across the holiday clearance section. I looked down to find the greatest treasure of all. Kwanzaa Cupcakes! That’s so cool.

CC

Update day is today, so say, yay!

Well this week we look at a classic, the gumball. Sure it’s not a revolutionary new treat, but really what would this world be like if we didn’t have gumballs. I’ll tell you what; it’d be a sad place with sad people chewing sad gum trapezoids.

Also in the members section we open up some German Kinder eggs and see what comes out. If you’re not a member yet what are you doing? Go on and join up, for as little as 3 bucks a month you can get all kinds of neat stuff.

The Lindt mystery

After diner tonight Allison and I where lucky enough to have a couple of Lindt chocolates left over from the holiday season to munch on. I pointed out a problem I’ve been having with them my whole life, to Allison.

When ever I bite into them all the middle tasty chocolate goodness breaks away from the shell and I end up with an empty end and a over filled end.

Allison went on to show me that when she bit onto them this never happened. What am I doing wrong?

My new years treat

Hope you all had a good new year, I had a great one. The best part was the fact that I had some friends over the night before and they left me a box of Quality Street chocolates.

They’re so shiny.

And yummy too.
