I hate spring!

I can’t tell you why I would ever agree not to purchase ice cream before the season got started; I think I might be a little stupid. The problem is I don’t like to back down on this kind of challenge, so I will continue to not purchase ice cream until we (here in Ottawa) get 5 summer like days in a row. The weather so far has been pretty much chilly and although spring like doesn’t really follow the rules I set for myself. I just want some Ice Cream, can’t Mother Nature hook me up?.. Please?

The new and improved update day!

Yup this is how it’s going to be folks, the poor Candy Critic has got to update on a Sunday. Too many distractions on the weekdays to really get this stuff down and to the level that candycritic.org deserves. So from now on Sunday mornings will be me in my pyjamas enjoying a little sweet treat and updating for all you fine folks. Speaking of fine treats this week we look at a classic, one I could have sworn I’d reviewed in the past, the Butterfinger.

How many licks?

I’ve decided for next months Candy of the Month Club video to dig deep and try and find the answer to this question.

No Ice Cream till it really becomes summer update.

Things I didn’t eat today

An elephant

A cactus

A Wendy’s Frosty

But I was tempted by one of them.

Happy National Pretzel Day!

Sure it sounds made up, and it probably is, but I didn’t make it up so that really all that matters.
Not that I really ever need an excuse to eat pretzels, they are one my favourite salty snacks in the world, it’s nice to have a day to make sure I eat a couple of them.

Update da… Wait a minute!

Update day will no longer take place on this fine day we all like to call Wednesday. Why not? Well first of all we here at Candy Critic really don’t like what Wednesday’s are all about the strange association with humps and such creeps us out, particularly because we greatly dislike camels. From now on Update day will be on Sunday; we’re not sure why but it just seems like a good choice.
On another note I should mention that due to cold weather and Mother Nature not doing what she should be I have reset my clock and I await another warm series of days in hopes that we hit five and I can go buy some ice cream.

No ice cream till it warms up

Now and again I make stupid decisions and presently I’m trapped in one. See I made a promise to myself, with Allison as a witness that I will not purchase any ice cream until we get 5 consistent days of summer like weather. I am allowed to eat ice cream if I don’t purchase it but I can’t under any circumstance buy it myself.

This all stems from the fact that winter here in Ottawa decided to last a little longer than it usually does and I thought that if I didn’t allow my summer ritual of eating ice cream to commence then it would send a strong message to Mother Nature. I assure you that after having just written it out that plan makes even less sense to me. But I’m a man of my word and although we’ve had two days of summer today may be a little too chilly to count so I think I’m back to square one.

Sorry I’m a day behind

Just thought I’d let you all know that if you didn’t eat a Jellybean yesterday then you missed out on National Jelly Bean day. I missed out a little because I only ate a jelly candy and normal beans, so it’s close but not quite right.

Crazy Cookies

Every time I think of the word cookie I picture Allison doing an impression of that girl from Amazing race saying “cookie, cookie, cookie”. I thought maybe watching this really strange add for cookies might help… nope didn’t.

I’m tired but I still update

This weeks review is all about Smarties, now you American folks that think Smarties are just little round pill like treats that you get on Halloween really should get out a bit and learn about what the rest of the world call Smarties. They’re more like M&Ms but the shell is a little different. This weeks review are those very treats only with peanuts… Just like M&Ms.

Pocky Bag!

I recently got this cool official Pocky bag while shopping for treats for the members. It’s so cool I almost passed out.

Pocky in my pocket

It’s like the Thriller video only Japanese and really strange, so it’s really nothing like Thriller except there are zombies in it.

Honey snack problem

A few years ago I did a review of these yummy hoop snacks. I picked them up on a road trip to the US. I love them; in fact I loved them so much that next time I went to the States I picked up another can. The problem came about on the following trip. I looked and looked and looked but I couldn’t find them anymore.
Since then I’ve been on a search to try and find it’s equivalent, but nothing has matched up. On my last trip I decided to pick up these little treats and see how they compare.
I tried them out today as a side dish to my yummy sandwich. (Man I never noticed how much it looks like my sandwich is eating my Fritos.) Well I have to say that I was a little disappointed, but having said that these are the closest I’ve found. They’re still a little too spicy but they’re not bad.

Upppppppp Daaaaaate

Well this week’s update is all about make your breath smell good and not tasting too bad. In fact if it’s cold where you are right now you might want to curl up with a few of these IQ Elements and just relax.

Also this week, a new episode of the Candy Critic Internet Films, I get blindfolded and fed strange and unusual things. It’s a good time for all.

New Triple Chocolate

Tim Hortons in their every present brilliance have come up with a triple chocolate donut that tastes awesome. I really appreciate the fact that the donut part is not chocolate but instead they double the icing and fill it with what can only be described as… Well chocolate pudding, but it’s good.

The day after

Twas the day after Easter and I must confess
I went looking for bargains and all I found was a mess
The chocolate was strewn and some was bitten
But I found such a deal on a chocolate kitten
So let this be a lesson for it is precise
The day after Easter chocolate’s always half price

A word from the NCA about Easter

Easter Fun Facts
Easter Bunnies

90 million chocolate Easter bunnies are made for Easter each year. 82 percent of Americans say they would prefer a chocolate or candy bunny for Easter, while only 4 percent say they would prefer a live rabbit.

63 percent of Americans would most like to receive a chocolate bunny on Easter morning, followed by marshmallow bunnies (10 percent).

Jelly Beans!

16 billion jelly beans are made for Easter (that's enough to completely fill an 89 feet high and 60 feet wide plastic Easter egg - about the height of a nine-story office building!)
Egg-strodinary!

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the largest Easter egg ever made was just over 25-ft high and made of chocolate and marshmallow. The egg weighed 8,968 lbs. and was supported by an internal steel frame. The first chocolate eggs were made in Europe in the early 19th century and remain among the most popular treats associated with Easter.

When it comes to knowing which types of bunnies please the palate, the majority of Americans say a solid chocolate bunny (42 percent) first and foremost, followed by a hollow chocolate bunny (21 percent), marshmallow bunny (10 percent) and other types of Easter bunny candy (9 percent).

Thanks NCA people!

U P D A T E D A Y

Easily one of the strangest Easter type treats I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating, this bar from Cadbury makes little to no sense to me whatsoever. The good news is it tasted ok, the bad news is it’s not easy to find and probably won’t last too long.
Also this week Allison weighs in on a low carb chocolate treat that really rubbed her the wrong way. Allison is not someone you want to cheese off, particularly when it comes to Almonds.

Nutritious Chocolate?

Holy cow, look at all the cool new Hershey stuff. I just got a few packs of some of new Hershey stuff straight from the folks at Hershey.
I can’t wait to try it. Oh and if you’re a member of the Candy of the Month Club, you’ll get some too!
