Happy National Macaroon Day!

At first I thought it was ‘national macaroni day’ so I wasn’t really prepared.

Well I was, just not for celebrating a chocolate coconut treat.

Cookie thing

As of late I’ve had a real craving and love for cookies. I’m sure this is only the beginning too.

Indian Deserter

I’ve developed a real liking for Indian buffet desert sections.
Half the time I can’t even tell you what I might be eating but every time I try something I’m always delighted. It’s not that it taste great every time but I’m never bored and often terrified by the way some of the food looks. I recommend more people try deserts and treats that might be a little freaky and I also recommend the Galub Jamin.

Sure I know it’s late, but it’s still update day.

Happy update day everybody… Wait a minute, it’s come to my attention that still some of you fine folks reading this BLOG have no idea what I’m talking about when I announce update day. Well it’s simple, this BLOG is all about the daily life at a web site (http://www.candycritic.org/) and every “update day” we update candy critic with a new review and sometimes a new article. So click on the links or the little pictures on update day and you’ll find out what all the fuss is about. This week’s fuss is a worthwhile fuss; these new Hershey’s chocolates are all right. The members of the Candy of the Month Club can prove it too.

Of Mice and Chocolate

The UK has the strangest slogans ever for their candy. Here’s a great example with the ‘Honeycomb Aero’ bar. Apparently squeaking the folks at Aero feel that chocolate eaters don’t want any more “squeak” in their lives. I’ve been known to eat a few chocolate bars now and then and I’ve never had a problem with it, however now that I’m thinking about it I’m sure I’ll be listening.

Christmas in May

So Christmas was what like 6 or 7 months ago? Well maybe not, but the sun is out and swimming season is almost upon us. Why would I bring this up?

Well I’ve got a whole bunch of Candy Canes that I swore I wouldn’t keep for the whole year. Nothing grosses me out more than thinking that I’m eating candy canes that are older than I am. I thought maybe guests might take them when they’d visit but as it turns out many people I know don’t really like Candy Canes.

So what should I do with them, eat them, throw them out, give them away? If you have any ideas let me know.

Today on update day I almost ate a whole can of frosting.

Yup Allison and I went shopping today and we got to the cake aisle and saw a can of frosting that was so tempting that we almost bought it. You may have thought that “health issues” where the reason we didn’t but I’m pretty sure it had more to do with the argument over whether or not the plain chocolate flavour was better than the chocolate fudge flavour. Speaking of good idea treats, this weeks review is full of chocolate but they also include the cake, or in this case it’s a yummy cookie.

Salvador Dali?

There’s this old joke that goes like this:

How many surrealists does it take to screw in a light bulb?

Purple Banana.

On that note here’s Salvador Dali in a chocolate bar commercial.

Happy National Chocolate Chip Day!

You know the only thing better than a hand full of chocolate chips?

A mouth full of chocolate chips.

Today is the day.

I’ve really been trying to figure out what warm day should be defined as. I say this because of the little promise I made to myself about eating ice cream only when Mother Nature has officially told me it’s warm enough.
Well today I believe it was time, I’ve waited well over 5 warm days. I’ve ridden my bike on several occasions and I’ve even sat outside on the grass.
All of the tourist attractions here in Ottawa are on their summer schedules so the day has come. I’m eating Ice Cream and I couldn’t be happier! Happy summer time everybody!

I’m feeling up about update day!

This week I try out what could be the bar with the simplest name ever. It’s a little strange because it’s called 3 but I only got one.
This week we also answer the candy question that plagued us all through our childhood, and then it disappeared for a while when dating became more important, but now it’s back again. How many licks does it take to get to the centre of a Tootsie Pop?

Candy Critic talks about something a little different today.

Normally this site is all about candy… well I guess that makes sense seeing as the site and BLOG are called “Candy Critic”. The difference is today I’m going to talk a little about how special effects are way over used in commercials and movies today. I came across this cute little Rolo ad and it made me remember what time where like before big budget special effects where available. This commercial is all about great editing and a fun little story line. I am finished.

Is what’s inside really what counts?

Today in the mail I got a great little treat.

It’s called Black Ace Liquorice and they claim it’s the best in the world. I haven’t tasted it yet but I can say that it has one of the coolest graphics ever on the package. Race cares are so awesome!

National Beverage Day was yesterday...

And I forgot to send you all a card, sorry. But I guess that’s probably a good thing because any card I could think of to celebrate such an event would probably just be really soggy.

200 Posts, and update day all in one!

Today kids you are getting your moneys worth, because not only is it update day but this post right here is post number 200 for the Candy Critic blog. So what does 200 posts mean? Well we’re not really sure, but a reason to celebrate is a reason to celebrate. This weeks review is worth celebrating because it’s chocolaty and very strange, so yippee.
The one thing I will not be celebrating with is an ice cream cone. Although I’m feeling pretty good about the idea that ones coming soon. It’s been about 4 days of nice warm weather here in Ottawa, a little windy yesterday but still nice. So I figure if we can hang on for two more days I’m going to go ice cream crazy.

Gum advertising

I was talking to my dad about gum ads and he was telling me that back in the day gum ads used to suggest that chewing their gum was as good as brushing you teeth. Makes me kind of glad we have standards in advertising now a day. This little ad above also might get caught up in the great web of advertising standards but for very different reasons.

Happy Candied Orange Peel Day!

I hate them, but today we have to celebrate them. Why? Well because somebody who for no particular reason decided to dedicate a day to them. This person obviously has some kind of mental problem. How do I know this? It’s simple, they like Candied Orange Peels.

I’m screaming for Ice Cream

What in the world made me think of this stupid idea to deny myself one of the best forms of milk and sugar (Sorry chocolate milk lovers) ever thought of just because of a freak snowstorm in what many believe to be the coldest capital in the world (I’ve been told but haven’t checked)? I want Ice Cream and I’m starting to want it more than I want summer to come. I’m feeling weak today and so far I think the mornings are still a little chilly (enough to wear a toque). I hate my silly ideas sometimes.

The kindergartners recipe for bubble gum

Does anybody remember this little gem?

“Pick your nose and pick your bum.

Now you have some bubble gum.”

It’s been years since I’ve heard this and for no apparent reason it just popped in my head today. Allison was not amused at all, but a question came up. Do kids still sing this little ditty to each other?

Oh and for the record, this is in fact not the way to make bubble gum.
