HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

Now stop reading this and go get some candy!

In French?

Listen up to CBC radio 1 in Montreal (and maybe all of Quebec) at 4:30 today because I’ll be chattin’ about candy again.

Did You Call?

Well today was the day for my appearance on the CBC’s Ontario Today.

I was a little nervous because I’d never done a call in show before.

But everything went great and nice people called. I didn’t take any pictures in the studio because I thought it would be a little too nerdy.

Not writing too much, just thinking.

Just thinking about Halloween a lot lately. Thinking about what’s the best, my most favourite, and the most classic Halloween candies. Is there one that might fit all of these categories? It’s not an easy choice. Also trying to figure out what’s a better costume, a gummy bear, Dracula, or a zombie dressed up as a ghost?

Talking about Halloween Candy

Hey everybody I’ll be on the CBC, ‘Ontario Today’ this Thursday (that’s October 30th) talking about candy and helping all those who call in find the best treats this year. It’s on radio one and I should be on around 12:30 p.m. If you don’t live in Canada (or Ontario for that matter) then you can go online and listen to it there instead.

Have a frightful update day!

This being the last update day until Halloween I just thought I’d take a minute and remind all you candy fanatics to get out there and get some cool treats. If you’re an adult getting treats for the kinds, don’t cheap out and make sure you’re the house to go to. If you’re a kid then make sure you get out and get as much as you can, and don’t forget to try some of everything because this is a great time to try new treats. If you’re an adult and you don’t plan on giving out treats this year, make sure you hit the stores the day after Halloween because that’s when the best deals are.

New Candy Friend

The NCA (National Confectioners Association) has just started a new blog called the “Candy Dish Blog”. I can assure you that it’ll be a great read because these guys really love candy.

OREO Cakesters

On a recent road trip I decided that I’d give these Cakester things a try. I’ve been a little sceptical about them but I figured it would be wrong not to give them a try. I’ve also decided that they don’t really warrant a full review but at least a mention. Basically they taste like they should have been made by Vashon (or what ever company makes Twinkie like cakes in your country). They’re ok, except for a horrible after taste. It sneaks up on you and they won’t ever let go.

TCHO has a new bag

It would appear that the folks at TCHO chocolates are still improving their treats. Not only are they continuing to improve their classics but apparently they’re still working on new things too. If you’ve never heard of them it’s a really interesting story of how a candy company can make chocolate from a whole new perspective.

Check out the TCHO website here.

Hey not only is it National Pumpkin Cheese Cake Day…

But I also got this new web cam/mini laptop. That means I’m going to waste even more time looking for treats and showing you pictures of me eating treats. I can blog on the run a little better now. I didn’t however manage to find any Pumpkin Cheese Cake, so I guess so far this new gadget’s been more of a hindrance than a benefit.

As the cold days approach, I update cautiously

It’s getting so cold that I’m thinking that I might take one last trip to my local candy store and just lock myself in the house for good. The sad thing is that it’s only going to get colder, and that’s probably the thing freaking me out the most. Fortunetly updates are done in the warm glow of my computer with a warm bathrobe on listening to musicals (don’t as about the musicals). This weeks review may not warm me up but at least it was fun to eat.

This ad is fishy

Not sure if I find it funny, or just funny because it’s so strange.

Pie Bye

On my recent road trip Allison and I decided that we’d stop by the Big Apple (not New York). The Big Apple is just that, a giant apple on the side of the road of the 401 in Ontario. Basically it’s a giant apple and a place you can buy ok pies (not great though).
I also found at the pie shop that they where selling cotton candy. But in a lame attempt to make it “pie” related they put the cotton candy in pie plates. It not only looks lame but you really don’t get much cotton candy at all. I would have hoped that someone could have come up with something a little cleverer.

The British Pantry and More

In a recent trip to Port Hope Ontario I came across this great little British shop. They had all kinds of cool British treats, and I picked up a bunch to review.
They also gave me a free British cookie. As a note to all business that sell candy and things of the sort, if you give me a free cookie or treat I’ll probably say nice things about your business.

This month at Tim Hortons

In celebration of Canadian Thanks Giving Tim Hortons has a Pumpkin Spiced donut. It’s not bad; actually it’s a lot better than I thought it would be. I guess I’m just glad they didn’t make a donut with pumpkin pie filling, because I’m not a big fan of pumpkin pie.

I don’t know why.

I don’t know why I chose this commercial, or why they used male cheerleaders, or why that “ting” at the end of the commercial makes me giggle. But I did, they did and it does.

Not really candy related but I’ll bitch anyways.

I saw this add for milk up today and it made me think. Why does milk need to advertise. I mean maybe a particular brand might advertise but milk in general is pretty much a staple well-known product. Are there really people finishing up a burger wondering what would wash it down? Not in the mood for soda, want something more than water, something nutritious? If you’re still stumped you might be an idiot.

I eat ‘em

I always tell people that one of the tricks to me keeping my winning figure and still reviewing candy is that I never eat the same treat twice. Well that’s kind of a lie, I rarely eat the same treat twice, but once in a while it’s just nice to have a handful of gummy bears.
I like biting the heads off.

Should I worry?

A friend of mine got me some cool treats from Australia and I’m super excited about trying them out.
The thing is with the melamine scare in Asia some Australian treats have been recalled too. Well what’s a little melamine going to do? I can’t resist.

Chocolate is for update day!!!

People really don’t know how much thought I put into each blog and review. For example rather than think about the title of this blog I decided that I’d just type what ever came to mind and not try and fix it or anything. As you can see that’s often a bad idea because it would appear that my head generally spills out incoherent random thoughts. This weeks review on the other hand is neither incoherent nor random. They are in fact fun to eat for the whole family.

Blah

Today I feel pretty burnt out and kind of sick. When I feel sick I often imagine that I feel like a potato chip, kind of greasy, salty, and crunchy. It’s not a pleasant feeling to have but a great feeling to have in your mouth. I also kind of crave potato chips when I’m sick so I’m sure that has something to do with it.

Tim Horton’s you made me cry.

Tim Hortons special for this month is the Happy Face cookie. Although my happy face doesn’t look very happy at all. In fact it looks really sad.

And that makes me sad.
